The Automated & Mechanical Parking Association (AMPA) is a non-profit professional association founded in 2001 with the mission to “serve the public by providing safe and reliable alternative solutions to challenging urban parking needs”. Because AMPA was born to facilitate the growth and prosperity of the US parking industry as a whole, its mission is disengaged from the offering or sale of specific products or services or from promoting particular providers or private companies.

Under this light, stakeholders such as city planners, urbanists, architects and developers can feel at rest that they are receiving accurate and unbiased information about highly innovative parking solutions capable of dramatically reducing parking footprints, increasing income-producing square footage, making unfeasible projects feasible, and promoting better land use. Automated parking solutions are also greener, more energy-efficient, environmentally sensible, safer for drivers and their vehicles and highly compatible with current concepts being adopted today for the cities of tomorrow.

Although the United States has always been recognized as a technologically advanced nation, the country is painfully behind when compared to the global automated parking market. The good news, however, is that the US industry is currently experiencing an unprecedented momentum, and, as a nation, we have a unique opportunity to seize that momentum and bring the US to the levels of advancement and competitiveness that the industry has achieved in other latitudes of the world.

Today, more than ever, there is an imminent need for awareness about the Association and the potential of the technology and the industry. AMPA is able to provide education, facilitate information and connect the market to its members; all US-based companies capable of providing a wide array of innovative parking solutions, from the simplest mechanical systems to the most state-of-the-art and sophisticated ones.

The parking subject is becoming more and more complex every day. High density, better land use, sustainable practices, environmental demands and concepts like autonomous vehicles, ride-sharing, multimodal transportation, smart and walkable cities, mobility, TOD, and IoT are challenging the way we build, the way we plan and the way we look at the urban fabric. The road from a car-centered present to a driverless future is a very difficult and uncertain one. Automated Parking may be just what we need to successfully travel that road and foster a smooth transition.

AMPA is an expert independent platform available to city planners, urbanists, architects, developers, and stakeholders to become familiar with automated parking technologies and how they may contribute and integrate with public and private projects of all shapes and sizes.
