Smart Parking will Soon be Available in the Historic Royal Borough of Greenwich

Smart Parking in Greenwich

Smart Parking are delighted to be a part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s 'Sharing Cities' and 'Low Emission Neighbourhood' initiatives, after recently receiving confirmation that we have been selected as the preferred parking technology supplier.

The Royal Borough of Greenwich, in the UK, is a culturally significant area – being most renowned for being the location of the Prime Meridian, as well as home to Greenwich Observatory and the Cutty Sark.

Today, the area is a complex urban environment with a mixture of historic sites, urban housing, businesses and green spaces.

Parking pressure around the University and National Maritime Museum is high, and with the smart city low emission focus Greenwich were keen to ensure that bays reserved for electric vehicles were kept free for their purpose, and not be used for general parking.

Being a key tourism site, another requirement was to focus on the high amount of tourist coaches that enter the area each day. Around the town centre and park the Borough provides free coach parking facilities, and with no way to monitor the length of stay times it has been difficult to estimate usage of the coach bays.

Smart Parking was able to meet these requirements and more, making the decision to award the contract an easy one for Greenwich.

We will shortly be installing our SmartPark system, including sensors and SmartSpot gateways, which will feed information into our SmartCloud platform and dashboard which will, in turn, seamlessly integrate with the Borough’s smart city Urban Sharing Platform.

Smart Parking CEO Paul Gillespie commented “This is another excellent opportunity for Smart Parking to be a part of a smart city initiative, and we’re excited to help the Royal Borough of Greenwich realise their goal of reducing emissions and encouraging the use of electric vehicles.”
