The IPI International Parking & Mobility Conference came just in time, since mobility is the main subject in the media and also is becoming a hot political topic.
Bogota and other Latin American cities had an idea to establish a law about mobility. It prohibited cars to be driven on certain days, depending on the last digit on the license plate. This caused people to buy a second car, causing a big problem with mobility.
The mayor of Bogota is looking into the possibility of implementing fees for on-street parking. Bogota does not have any, and the Colombian culture has not been one of paying for on-street parking.
According to Bogota resident and IPI Board member Alejandro “Alex” Jaramillo: “Mobility issues are not caused by having too many cars on the streets, but rather because of the lack of infrastructure being created by the government. There is no better time for us–parking people–to come hear what experts have to say at the International Parking and Mobility Conference on October 3-4, in Bogota, Colombia.”
