Another way to get rid of your parking ticket…

What to do when you get fined for illegal parking and cannot afford to pay the fine? One man from the UK thinks he has the answer: Place the ticket on eBay.

This man, he calls himself David or “Mental Dave”, explains that he got a parking ticket in Birmingham, UK and isn’t able to pay the fine. The eBay add states that The ticket is in good condition and purchase will result in exquisite happiness” and it will be send to the highest bidder, with an additional Thank You note off course.

I don’t dispute either the ticket or my fault but am in a bad financial state and was only stopping at the custard factory in Birmingham to collect half a metre of cloth! It destroyed our day and is still worrying me as I’m not sure where to get the funds for this from”, Dave wrote on eBay in an attempt to find someone foolish enough to pay for his mistake.

There must be one person who has done well in life and can relate to this very small horror story who would like to buy it from me”. I’m sorry, I can’t feel too bad for this guy. Maybe next time try not to get a ticket, especially if you know you can’t afford to pay the £60? I must give him an A+ for creativity though.

The world is full of darkness and people who are quick to take advantage and whilst this plight is my own fault, it would be a wonderful thing to know that someone out there cared enough about a total stranger to buy this ticket from me, he adds. Anyone out there who wants to help a poor performer, as he calls himself, by buying his ticket? He says that he will use the money he raises to pay the fine. And now here comes the great part that makes me like this guy:

“IF I END UP RAISING MORE THAN THE 64.50 (PLUS EBAY COSTS) I WILL DONATE THE REMAINDER TO A FAMILY THAT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION WHO ARE FACING LIFE THREATENING ILLNESS.” He wrote on eBay.

Last Thursday afternoon the highest bid was about $172. Originally Dave said that he would use the remaining money for a nice weekend break, but he changed his mind. All the money will go to the Witton family in Luton to pay their medical bills.

The auction has been removed from eBay, but as soon as eBay realized the auction was now for raising money, they put it back up.
