VINCI Construction UK

Holst & Co, a southern based civil engineering company was founded in 1918 and Norwest Construction was formed in Liverpool in 1923. Norwest Holst is the result of a merger in 1969 between these two successful and long established companies.

In 1989, Société Générale d'Entreprises took a controlling stake in Norwest Holst Limited and in 1991 acquired the final majority shareholding.

In 1998, in recognition of its renewed financial strength and status within the industry following a carefully constructed five year plan by the present management team, Norwest Holst Limited became Norwest Holst GroupPLC.

In May 2000, SGE changed its name to VINCI in recognition of its new independent status and potential for further expansion and growth within the industry.

Later that year, VINCI successfully completed an all-share takeover bid for Groupe GTM, the construction arm of Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux. With a turnover in the region of 17.6 billion euros and almost 130,000 employees worldwide, VINCI is now the world's leading company in construction, concessions and associated services.

In 2001 Norwest Holst GroupPLC became VINCI PLC. The change of name to VINCI PLC acknowledges the status of the UK operations in the global context of VINCI.
