Embedded Software Engineer (Harmelen, NL)
Do you want to work on the embedded software that forms the basis of our smart camera and computer vision systems?
At ARVOO in Harmelen, we are looking for an enthusiastic Embedded Software Engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of software and hardware. You will join a close-knit technical team where you will have ample opportunity to grow, contribute ideas, and gradually take on more responsibility.
About ARVOO
ARVOO is a leading Dutch technology company that has been developing computer vision products for over 30 years. What makes us unique is that we design and produce both hardware and software entirely in-house, all from our facility in Harmelen. Our technology is applied in a wide range of products and projects. Examples include parking enforcement and access control, as well as sorting machines for Brussels sprouts and systems that automatically recognize street litter or defective street lighting. We develop technically advanced, high-quality products, but we consider the way we collaborate to be just as important. Integrity, teamwork, quality, and respect for colleagues and customers form the core of our corporate culture.
Why work at ARVOO?
ARVOO is growing rapidly and aims to continuously develop new, innovative products that improve the livability of public spaces. That is why we are expanding our team of Embedded Software Engineers. One of our unique strengths is the seamless integration of custom software and hardware. As an Embedded Software Engineer, you are at the heart of this process, helping to optimally align these components. In doing so, you contribute directly to the success of products such as our scanning vehicles, which are now deployed in many cities worldwide. Because we develop virtually all the technology ourselves, the lines of communication between software, hardware, and production are short. You work in an environment where various disciplines come together and where there is ample opportunity to learn from one another. Are you curious about other aspects of our technology? Then we encourage you to look beyond your own field of expertise.
What will you be doing?
In your role as an Embedded Software Engineer, you will work on various tasks in both small-scale and larger projects. This could involve, for example: supporting and making a temperature sensor available in embedded Linux, or designing and programming a microcontroller that regulates the power supply of a scanning vehicle. In this position, you will focus primarily on developing firmware and the Board Support Package (BSP) for new generations of embedded Linux systems and camera sensors. Your daily activities include, among others:
- Developing and extending embedded software and Board Support Packages (BSPs), and programming microcontrollers in C.
- Control, synchronize, and optimize hardware (such as image sensors and flashes) via (real-time) firmware for maximum image quality.
- Making hardware functionality accessible to our software, for example by making microcontroller functions available via our own libraries and (Python) interfaces.
- Collaborating with colleagues from hardware and software development to realize new functionalities and further improve existing products.
- Providing support with technical issues involving embedded software.
What do we ask of you?
We are primarily looking for someone who is curious about technology and enjoys understanding how software and hardware come together.
- You have a higher professional or university (HBO) working and thinking level with a background in Embedded Systems or a related education.
- You have an affinity for hardware, Linux, and drivers.
- You have a good command of the Dutch and English languages.
- You are solution-oriented, enjoy contributing ideas for improvements, and take responsibility.
- You can work accurately, independently, and in a disciplined manner.
Experience with embedded software development and a solid technical foundation are a major plus. At the same time, we expect you to learn primarily through practical experience. We do expect you to be able to tackle technical issues independently, show initiative, and enjoy really sinking your teeth into a project.
What do we offer you?
- A temporary contract for 32 – 40 hours per week with the prospect of permanent employment.
- Flexible working hours, so that work and private life can be well balanced.
- 8% holiday allowance and 25 vacation days.
- Attractive secondary employment benefits, including a travel allowance.
- Super fun colleagues with a passion for technology and innovation, who are always up for a cup of coffee and a game of table football, table tennis, or darts in the canteen.
Your future at ARVOO.
At ARVOO, from day one, you get the chance to contribute ideas on how our products and organization can be made even better. We encourage you to contribute your ideas and expertise, with plenty of opportunities to grow within our organization.
