Job Overview:

Free2Move (F2M) is looking for a Lead Technician (contract position) to support the Car Sharing Operations in Portland, Oregon. Free2move offers customers travel solutions for short, medium or long term vehicle rentals. Customers can locate and book a car directly through the Free2move app, to get where they want to go!

The Lead Technician position helps to ensure vehicles are operating in the Free2move car sharing fleet. Making sure vehicles are always prepared for the next customer and the next trip. The Lead Technician duties include directly supporting the City Fleet Manager with managing the car sharing fleet in the city, participating in the organization of the work of Technicians (internal or subcontracted), the distribution and monitoring of priorities with a view to a maximum available fleet, and helping direct work as needed for Technicians. The Team Leader must have knowledge of vehicle light repairs, tire and battery changes, the ability to assess the severity of a damage, the duration of a repair and its value as well as performing fluid checks and more. The Lead Technician must be able to also drive vehicles to new locations within the city, clean vehicles, fuel vehicles, and other duties as assigned. He works with partner garages to monitor repairs and optimize duration and cost

The ideal candidate will have automotive technician experience and knowledge, leadership abilities, exhibit safe driving skills, be able to take direction, and can be entrusted with valuable property.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Supports City Fleet Manager in managing the carsharing fleet within the city
  • Help lead the Car Porters and Technicians(internal and subcontracted) within the city to complete their needed tasks
  • Understanding of vehicle repair needs and diagnose issues as needed
  • Works with partner garages to monitor repairs and optimize duration and cost
  • Ability to change tires on vehicles to ensure vehicles are back in the homezone and available for customers to rent. Able and willing to complete task when Technician is not available
  • Ability to change vehicle batteries when needed. Able and willing to complete task when Technician is not available
  • Make installations and modifications to vehicle telematics boxes in vehicles, to ensure proper vehicle connectivity to Free2move Application. Able and willing to complete task when Technician is not available
  • Able to conduct other necessary vehicle maintenance
  • Driving and handling all vehicles responsibly to ensure damage prevention, and protecting Free2move property at all times
  • Driving vehicles within city limits (homezone), to new locations in homezone as directed
  • Uses company provided tablet to access Free2move App to locate vehicles in homezone, and assign and address customer tickets
  • Support Car Porters and Technicians in ensuring vehicles have adequate fuel and fluid levels, filling fuel tank using gas can or at gas station as needed, filling washer fluid
  • Support Car Porters and Technicians in maintaining vehicle appearance, internal and external. Car washes as needed, removing garbage and debris within vehicle, vacuuming and wiping down vehicle interior
  • Drive vehicles to repair / body shop or mechanic, as needed or required for more complex repairs
  • Provide assistance to Car Porters, Technicians, and City Fleet Manager as needed

Experience & Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record
  • Demonstrated experience as a Automotive Technician at a garage, automotive dealership, or similar work
  • Past experience in team leader type role
  • Working knowledge of vehicle maintenance
  • Ability to review, analyze, and interpret information, identify problems, and make decisions
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow procedures and guidelines
  • Ability to drive vehicles on busy streets in varying levels of traffic
  • Ability to park vehicles on busy streets, including parallel parking when required
  • Ability to assume responsibility for the valuable property of customers and Free2move
  • Willingness to learn and to perform a wide range of allocated tasks
  • Ability to use discretion related to vehicle needs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work regular schedule and overtime as needed

Job Details:

  • Contract Position
  • Pay Rate: $22/hour
  • Full Time Work (40 hours per week)
  • Schedule - 8:00am to 5:00pm
  • Overtime Available as Needed
  • Benefits available though agency
