Web Developer / Software Engineer (Exeter, UK)
Job Purpose
To deliver work from the product backlog consisting of new features (customer enhancements and strategic business requirements), bugs, and technical debt prioritised by the Product Owner. You will progress work through the complete software development lifecycle: writing clean, high-quality code with strong performance and security standards, participating in peer code reviews, testing, and supporting release into production. You will maintain strong ownership, debug post-deployment issues, and keep progress transparent via daily stand-ups to ensure impediments are addressed quickly.
Key Responsibilities & Core Competencies
- Core Technical Focus: Demonstrate proficiency in PHP and/or Python, relational databases (SQL), and version control systems (Git).
- Quality & Lifecycle Ownership: Write secure, performant code for web-based products and exercise strong ownership to see work units fully through to release.
- Problem Solving: Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to complex feature builds, bug fixes, and technical debt.
- Agile Collaboration: Actively participate in an Agile environment—giving and receiving constructive criticism during code reviews and keeping team members updated during daily stand-ups.
