ASK has received additional order for contactless cards for Taipei

Launched in 2000 when ASK made an initial delivery of 500,000 cards, the project gradually spread throughout the city’s mass transit network, including buses, public off-road car parking lots, the subway system and taxis. Taipei is now renewing its order for an additional 700,000 contactless transportation cards.

Government, transit operators and end-users benefit from all the advantages brought by contactless technology. This government project enhances the quality of public transportation and mobility for citizens, and contributes to improving the environment thanks to a reduced number of private vehicles on the road. Public transport schemes can also be developed on a large scale, while accurate data collection provides the basis for fair rates. Taipei-based public transport operators have now access to a full database allowing traffic forecasts and specific fares collection for a better customer and service management. As boarding goes faster and drivers do not manage any cash-handling or ticket-checking, the overall revenue of the operators increase as well. For passengers, the benefits are obvious since they now have just one user-friendly single card for multiple transport modes. They may use it for several months, and reload it in automatic vending machines that are available throughout the network.
