BPA Announces New President
Nigel Williams will be inaugurated as the new President of the British Parking Association (BPA) at its Annual General Meeting.
During his Presidential year, Mr Williams will focus on the development of training for people in the parking industry. He is leading the BPA group which is creating a sector skills strategy for the industry (see notes). Currently no defined qualification structure exists for the entire parking sector. This means it is difficult for people to follow a career path that will take them from an operational to a managerial level. The strategy will address this, and in particular, will look at developing degree level qualifications.
On 12 July, as new President, Mr Williams will welcome members and Government officials to the BPA annual President's Event on the Terrace of the House of Commons, Westminster. The highlight of the evening will be the distribution of the recommendations, made by Richard Childs, following his review of on-street parking enforcement. The BPA, with support from the DfT, commissioned Mr Childs to conduct the review, with a view to putting the recommendations to Government for inclusion in its Statutory Guidance Notes for parking. Karen Buck, Minister at the DfT, will speak at the event, as will John Austin MP, who is kindly hosting the evening.
Nigel Williams Resume
With his continental background, Nigel is keen for the UK car parking industry to match European quality standards. His special interest to date has been on-street enforcement, having chaired both the BPA working groups which developed the model contract and the steering committee for the DPE Review carried out by Richard Childs.
He lives in France, working in the UK during the week and returning home at weekends.
