Cubic to Showcase Integration of Multi-Application Smart Card Technology At Parking Industry Exhibition April 19-20.
Cubic Transportation Systems Inc., a subsidiary of San Diego-based Cubic Corporation, will showcase its smart card-based fare collection technology for parking at the Parking Industry Exhibition, held April 19-20 in Chicago.
Parking services suppliers Lexis Systems Inc. and Central Parking System will demonstrate Cubic's multi-application smart card technology, which can be integrated into any parking product on the market -- be it for street, garage or lot parking services. The demonstrations will be held in Booth #401 in the Exhibit Hall at the Hyatt Regency (O'Hare).
The capability to integrate parking and other third-party applications is made possible by the open architecture of Cubic's patented Tri-Reader(R). The Tri-Reader, an integral module in all Cubic fare collection equipment, can read any type of contactless smart card meeting international standards. This provides regional and third party participants a truly open system with flexibility, interoperability and a range of fare payment media choices.
On April 19 between 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., David deKozan, vice president of strategic planning for Cubic Transportation Systems Inc., will discuss how to successfully integrate parking and other applications into an open transit system. His presentation, "Regional Smart Card Systems for Parking Applications," is part of the Regional Smart Card/AVI Projects session of the Conference of Parking Management and Technology being held concurrently with the PIE exhibition.
Cubic has fielded or is currently implementing many of the largest regional smart card projects in the world today, including London, Washington, D.C./Maryland/Virginia, Los Angeles, Atlanta, San Francisco and San Diego, and last summer was awarded the contract to deliver a regional system to South East Queensland, Australia. These projects show the transport community's desire to link multiple transport operators, modes and applications in regional ticketing systems because of the greater convenience, higher security and ease of use for patrons.
"Parking is an important extension of services for established transit smart card programs that have developed commercial relationships by leveraging the card into various travel-related applications, such as cities where commuters park their cars for the day and take public transport for inner-city commutes," said deKozan. "With contactless smart cards emerging as the primary form of transit payment in many of the nation's largest transit systems, the ability to add a parking application through a third-party provider creates access to an established customer base numbering in the millions.
"With Cubic's technology and solutions, a variety of partnership relationships are made possible," he added.
