London's parking fines to move up a notch?

Despite fierce opposition and a clear sign of disapproval from local authority heads asked at the BPA's Parkex International in October, the ALG looks set to raise the capital's parking fines for the first time since 1998. Following a lengthy consultation process the ALG look likely to agree a scheme which will see the three charging bands (A, B, C) rise from L80/60/40 to L120/80/60. Band A covers red routes and the majority of inner London, B covers outer London and C is the off-street penalties in some of outer London.

The changes would bring charges in line with fixed fines imposed by the police since November 2000. ALG have reacted to criticisms by saying that many boroughs across the city have found it hard at current levels to achieve self-financed parking enforcement schemes.
