Policeman jailed for parking fine dodge

When delivery driver Raymond Lucas received a L30 fine he called on his neighbour PC Paul Taylor and asked if he could 'do something' with the ticket as a favour for him having fed the policeman's cat whilst he was away. PC Taylor tracked down the traffic warden who had issued the ticket and removed the duplicate sheet that would of have gone on to be processed by the fines department.

More than a year later senior officers were searching Taylor's house on an unrelated matter and discovered both parts of the ticket. Both Taylor, 36, and Lucas, 58, denied perverting the course of justice but were found guilty in Cardiff Crown Court in December. Lucas received a 12-month conditional discharge whilst Lucas was jailed for three months and will lose his career in the police force as a result of his actions. Judge Christopher Llewellyn-Jones, QC, commented: "This was an act of misguided generosity."
