Washington D.C. introduces its first multi-space, P&D parking meters with Credit Cards.

ACS – a leading provider of parking management services – has installed the first 53 Parkeon Stelio® machines, out of 100 ordered, in the Capital’s Georgetown district.

In addition to coins, the new terminals accept credit cards, increasing driver convenience and making it more economical for the District to collect parking revenues, while also reducing the opportunities for theft and fraud.

“Multi-space meters are a gain for motorists,” said Dan Tangherlini, director of the District Department of Transportation. “They create more spaces, which people really like, and decrease costs for the City.”

The new pay-and-display installation will be monitored using Parkeon’s fully-hosted Parkfolio® Management system. This provides real-time information on events affecting the machines, so that maintenance can be planned efficiently.

Messages are transmitted by a modem in each machine via the Velocita Wireless Mobitex-based wireless data-only network. This service also facilitates the authorization and processing of credit card payments through CreditCall Communications’ CardEase™ secure payment service, which has been integrated with the pay-and-display terminals.
