Sojitz, Vision Invest and Incheon International Airport Corporation Sign 35-Year Agreement to Develop New Tashkent International Airport
Sojitz Corporation, Vision International Investment Company and Incheon International Airport Corporation have entered into a 35-year concession agreement for the development and operation of a new international airport serving Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The agreement was signed with state-owned airport operator JSC Uzbekistan Airports. The consortium will work alongside the Uzbek company to deliver the project through a public-private partnership.
Scheduled to begin operations in 2030, the airport represents an anticipated investment of more than JPY 370 billion, equivalent to approximately USD 2.5 billion. It is intended to become a major regional hub for passenger services, cargo operations and logistics.
The planned airport will occupy a site in the Kuyichirchik and Urtachichik districts of the Tashkent Region. Once operational, it is expected to accommodate as many as 20 million passengers annually, around twice the present capacity of the city’s existing airport.
The development is designed to address rising demand for air travel in and around the Uzbek capital. Passenger numbers in the Tashkent area increased by an annual rate of 14.2% between 2024 and 2025, according to figures referenced by Sojitz.
Each partner will contribute its experience to the development and long-term management of the airport. Sojitz plans to support the attraction of airlines and expansion of international routes, while also exploring associated activities such as airport concessions and ground-handling services.
The project forms part of Uzbekistan’s wider programme to modernize national infrastructure and reform its aviation sector. The government is using public-private partnerships to support these objectives under its Uzbekistan-2030 development strategy.
