Allego Plans €100 Million UK Expansion with 1,400 Ultra-Rapid EV Chargers
Allego has announced plans to invest €100 million in the expansion of its UK charging network, with up to 1,400 ultra-rapid EV charging points scheduled for installation by 2030.
The rollout will concentrate on locations where demand for public charging is expected to be highest. Motorway corridors, heavily travelled destinations and densely populated urban areas will be prioritised, with London identified as an important market for the expansion.
To support the programme, Allego is seeking partnerships with retailers, hospitality businesses and operators of suitable high-traffic properties. Potential sites include restaurants, shopping destinations and motorway service areas where drivers can charge while using nearby facilities.
Under Allego’s operating model, the company can finance, develop, own and manage the charging infrastructure installed at a partner’s property. This allows participating site owners to add EV charging without taking responsibility for the installation or day-to-day operation of the equipment. In return, property partners may receive long-term rental income from the use of their locations.
The planned installations will add to the UK’s growing rapid and ultra-rapid charging network and strengthen the availability of higher-powered charging options for drivers travelling through busy transport and commercial locations.
