APCOA and MILES Launch Pilot Project for Parking Pressure Relief in Berlin

Parking lot operator APCOA and car sharing provider MILES are launching a cooperation for ticketless parking

Parking lot operator APCOA and car sharing provider MILES are launching a cooperation for ticketless parking in selected city center locations. Since 1 April, customers have been able to conveniently start and end the parking process with their MILES vehicle in three APCOA car parks in Berlin.

The cooperation includes the two Charlottenburg locations Kant Center and Augsburger Straße, as well as the Victoria Center at Ostkreuz station. An expansion to other locations, including outside Berlin, is being examined.

Entry and exit is convenient with the help of automatic license plate recognition, which has already proven itself at many APCOA locations. Physical parking tickets or manual payment processes at the machine are completely eliminated, as the processing takes place in the background via the MILES platform.

MILES users can start and end their rental directly in the car park. The vehicles can be parked in any free, regular parking space – a search for special car-sharing markings is not necessary for the time being.

The solution reduces the time spent on parking and ensures a consistent, smooth parking and rental process. Especially in heavily frequented inner-city locations, the increasing parking pressure and lack of public parking spaces are a constant problem. By shifting parked vehicles to multi-storey car parks, the roads are relieved and classic search traffic is reduced, which contributes to better traffic organisation and less pollution in inner-city districts.

"The cooperation with MILES is another building block in improving the parking situation in urban city centre locations. Together, we ensure less stress, more comfort and more time gained during the parking process and at the same time contribute to relieving the burden on city centres," says Stefanie Kochs, Head of Urban Hubs APCOA Germany.

Our goal is to integrate car sharing into everyday life as easily and flexibly as possible. By connecting the APCOA multi-storey car parks, we take the pressure off the streets and offer our users a reliable parking alternative in highly frequented locations," says Peter Kormany, Project Manager Business Development at MILES.
