New Gonzaga Parking on Mantua's Lakefront

The new Gonzaga Parking, realised by APCOA PARKING ITALIA S.p.A., a leading operator of parking services in Italy and Europe, was inaugurated today in Mantua, under a 60-year concession from the Municipality of Mantua.

Inaugurating the new infrastructure with a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony were Mayor of Mantua Mattia Palazzi, Councillor for Environment and Spatial Planning Andrea Murari, APCOA PARKING Italia Managing Director Arturo Benigna, and APCOA Group CEO Philippe Op de Beeck. Among the authorities in attendance were Public Works Councillor Nicola Martinelli and APCOA Group CCO Frank van der Sant.

Gonzaga Parking, designed and built by APCOA to meet the most current urban mobility needs while respecting the artistic value of Mantua's historic centre, has now 233 parking spaces managed on a rotating basis and is spread over two floors, one on surface and one underground for a total of 8,380 square meters.

The surface area (5,630 sq. m.) has 137 parking spaces, 5 of which are for disabled people and 3 for electric vehicles, including one with fast charging, which will grow on a modular basis according to needs, as well as 13 motorcycle spaces, an area for electric bicycles, and a locker board area, in a logic of an urban mobility hub.

The underground floor (2,750 sq m) has 96 parking spaces and has contributed, together with the significant expansion of the surface area, to quantitatively and qualitatively enhance the city's parking areas. Southern vehicular access is from Via Lungolago Gonzaga; northern access is from Largo Vigili del Fuoco, with two vehicular exits on Via Lungolago Gonzaga.

“We are particularly proud of having kept our promise and to inaugurate today, on the eve of the XXVII edition of the Festival of Literature, the Gonzaga Parking, a new strategic infrastructure for the accessibility and liveability of Mantua, which will contribute in a decisive way to qualify the range of services for residents, workers, commerce and tourism - said Arturo Benigna, Managing Director of APCOA PARKING Italia S.p.A. -. It is a project that starts from afar, in which we have always believed and which prompted us five years ago to accept the invitation extended to us by Mayor Mattia Palazzi for a direct commitment to this project. APCOA is an international Company, but we are strongly rooted in this territory, which has been home to our Italian headquarters for almost forty years. We are managers, myself first, who are very attached to Mantua, and after having garnered a lot of acclaim throughout Italy, we could not imagine not realizing something important for our city. I would like to thank Mayor Palazzi, whose determination and credibility were fundamental in obtaining our involvement, Councillor Andrea Murari, our CEO Philippe Op De Beeck, and our shareholders who also supported us financially, as well as all the technicians, from APCOA and the Municipality of Mantua, who contributed to the project, in the name of the best example of public-private collaboration”.

There has not been a new multistorey car park in Mantua's historic centre for many years. - explained Mantua Mayor Mattia Palazzi - APCOA's investment, which has withstood even Covid and rising material costs, shows that the leading company in Italy and Europe also believes in and is betting on our city, and for this I thank them. Just as I thank them for the competitive and shared rates that will make this car park useful and attractive to so many downtown residents as well”.

The car park is open 24h/24 and is equipped with the latest technology for access control and user security.

Access will be possible with APCOA Flow and Telepass, which will allow transit without collecting a ticket, while there will still be 2 automatic cash machines located at pedestrian access points in front of Largo Vigili del Fuoco and from Vicolo Dogana.

The short-term parking tariff is € 1.90 per hour from 7:00 a.m. to midnight and € 1.20 per hour for the nighttime period from midnight to 7:00 a.m., with a daily maximum tariff of € 6.00. Residents of the Municipality and Province of Mantua who choose Gonzaga Parking can benefit from a 20% discount on short-term parking tariffs by downloading and registering on the APCOA Flow APP (for more information see the following link https://www.apcoa.it/gonzaga-parking/).
In parallel with the opening of the new Gonzaga Parking, which enhances the city's parking system, APCOA and the Municipality have defined an agreement which foresees that the APCOA Flow APP can be used as a payment system in all on-street parking areas managed by the Municipality of Mantua, through the company ASTER. The 20% discount, mentioned above, is not applicable to the on-street parking areas managed by ASTER.

Merchants will be able to have parking vouchers from 1 to 3 hours, discounted by 30% compared to the standard tariffs, to offer to their customers. About contract parking, three main types will be available: the 24h/24 7days/7 at a cost of € 120 per month (discounted to € 80 per month for residents in the Municipality of Mantua), the daytime Monday-Friday 7:00-20:00 at a cost of € 80.00 per month and the nighttime 7days/7 19:00-07:00 at a cost of € 30.00 per month.

For those who move their residence to the Municipality of Mantua, the resident contract parking will be further discounted for the first 12 months from the date of transfer to € 50 per month.

The Gonzaga Parking Project is the result of the ingenuity and collaboration of seven leading Italian design and architectural studios, which have created an infrastructure that is innovative but in constant dialogue with the site, enhancing its location close to the historic centre and crowning the walls, which are even more striking thanks to night lighting, all while respecting the landscape.
