Network Rail and APCOA Announce Opening Date for New Cardiff Central Quay Multi-Storey Car Park

The Much-Anticipated Cardiff Central Quay Multi-Storey Car Park Will Open as Part of Network Rail’s Wider Regeneration of the Cardiff Central Station Area.

On 30th January, the much-anticipated Cardiff Central Quay multi-storey car park will open as part of Network Rail’s wider regeneration of the Cardiff Central station area in collaboration with Platform4 – Network Rail’s property development company – and Transport for Wales.

Within easy reach of Cardiff Central station, the new car park can be accessed from Penarth Road and Crawshay Street and is fully illuminated during early mornings and evenings, creating a striking visual presence in the heart of the city.

Staffed 24-hours a day and managed by leading provider APCOA, working in partnership with Platform4, the multi-storey car park is operated by a barrier system and offers 681 spaces. Other facilities include 28 ‘tap and charge’ electric vehicle charging points, a drop off area and onward travel options including bike racks and a planned 24-hour car rental scheme.

On opening, the impressive new facility will be issued with a ‘Park Mark’ accreditation by the British Parking Association. This is in recognition of the measures put in place to enhance customer safety, established through a full risk assessment conducted by the Police.

The Penarth Road surface-level car park and the Riverside car park at Cardiff Central station will remain open for now. Both will close later this year ahead of construction works starting for station enhancements.

APCOA’s UK & Ireland Managing Director Kim Challis said “The opening of this impressive new car park is the result of collaboration with partners at Network Rail, Transport for Wales and Platform4. Together, we’ve used our shared expertise to deliver a facility that enhances the customer experience for Cardiff Central station users, residents and visitors to the area.”

Sian Evans, Asset Management Director at Platform4, said “The opening of the Cardiff Central Quay car park represents a new way of working for the stakeholders involved. Platform4’s mission is to revolutionise rail regeneration, and by working with partners to develop the multi-storey car park, we’ve unlocked land which can deliver so much more for customers, through homes and infrastructure improvements.”
