Arrive: The Netherlands Remains the Most Popular Destination for Belgian Motorists Abroad
Belgians do not always have to look far for a road trip. A recent analysis by parking app EasyPark between January 2025 and June 2026 shows that Belgian drivers cross the border primarily towards the Netherlands, France, and Germany. In total, EasyPark registered 34,359 foreign vehicle registrations via Belgian users during that period, whenever they added a vehicle or license plate to the app while abroad. Amsterdam and Rotterdam top the list of most popular cities, followed by Paris, Frankfurt, and Lille.
Over the past eighteen months, Belgians certainly did not stay indoors, especially not during the summer months. On average, EasyPark registered 1,909 foreign vehicle registrations per month by Belgian users. As soon as the summer holidays got underway, that number was significantly higher.
August 2025 was the most popular month to hit the road, with 3,973 foreign registrations. July and June also scored high, with 3,604 and 2,871 registrations respectively. Combined, the monthly average during that summer period was 82% higher than over the entire analysis period.
Neighboring Countries Remain Favorites
It is not sunny Spain or northern Denmark that attracts Belgian motorists, but primarily the neighboring countries. The Netherlands ranks first with 8,281 registrations. Within the Netherlands, Amsterdam and Rotterdam stand out in particular, with 3,165 and 1,704 registrations respectively. France follows in second place with 6,577 registrations. There, Paris and Lille lead the list. Germany completes the top three with 4,378 registrations, with Frankfurt being the most popular city. Italy and Switzerland also score high, with 3,459 and 1,372 registrations.
Italy Peaks in the Summer, Germany in the Winter
Although the Netherlands and France Italy peaks in the summer, Germany in the winteremain at the top all year round, preferences change slightly by season. In the summer months, Italy moves up to third place, with 1,481 registrations. In the winter, Germany takes third place with 781 registrations.
Rental Car in the App
Anyone using a rental or borrowed car while traveling can now add it as a ‘Temporary vehicle’ in the EasyPark app. The user chooses when the vehicle is automatically removed from the app and subsequently receives a confirmation via a push notification or email. In this way, EasyPark reduces the risk of drivers accidentally starting a parking session with the license plate of a former rental or borrowed car after their trip. “Anyone traveling by car primarily wants as little hassle as possible along the way. Many Belgians choose destinations that are close enough to reach by car, but parking abroad often remains an extra concern. Every city has its own rules, rates, and payment methods, which sometimes creates uncertainty when you arrive and want to relax. With EasyPark, drivers can park across the border in a way they are already familiar with from home, and thanks to the new temporary vehicle feature, they can now also easily park their rental car. Whether you stop in Amsterdam, Paris, or Frankfurt: you don't have to figure out how payment or renewal works every time. This leaves more room for what holidays are really about: arriving, getting out, and enjoying,” says Arne Van Helleputte of EasyPark.
