Blue Grass Airport Opens Expanded Long-Term Parking Facility

New 815-space addition improves airport access ahead of peak summer travel

Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, Kentucky, has completed a major expansion of its long-term parking facilities, adding 815 new spaces to support rising passenger demand.

The newly opened parking area is part of the airport’s broader Future LEX development program and is designed to improve access, convenience, and traffic movement around the terminal. The project was completed in time for the busy summer travel period.

In addition to the extra parking capacity, the work included a reconfigured Terminal Drive loop, a second covered walkway connecting passengers to the terminal, and a new exit plaza with an additional exit lane. The expanded exit capacity is expected to help manage higher vehicle volumes during peak arrival periods.

Passenger safety and operational support were also addressed through the installation of two emergency call stations in parking areas. The project also delivered a new employee parking lot and an underground utility corridor.

At Blue Grass Airport, every improvement we make is centered on our passengers and preserving the airport experience they know and appreciate, said Eric Frankl, president & CEO of Blue Grass Airport. These parking enhancements provide greater convenience, easier access to the terminal and more flexibility for travelers and their families. As we continue to grow, our commitment remains the same: ensuring every trip through Blue Grass Airport remains simple, welcoming and stress-free.

The parking expansion is one of the first visible elements of Future LEX, a multi-phase capital improvement program representing approximately $500 million in investment over the next five years. Planned future components include an expanded and relocated rental car garage, new support facilities, and a terminal expansion with a new concourse.

Blue Grass Airport serves central and southeastern Kentucky and offers nonstop service to 19 major hubs and vacation destinations across the United States. The airport handles around 1.6 million passengers annually.
