British Parking Association hosts key networking event
The British Parking Association (BPA) members dinner, which took place on Tuesday 28 November 2006, has become one of the key events in the parking calendar for networking, socialising and keeping ahead of the latest parking issues.
Attended by over 200 guests at the Drapers Hall, London, the event saw the announcement of the winner of the prestigious Ernest Davies award for Advancing Parking Knowledge.

Chris Whapples, Whapples Consulting, picked up the award for his parking practice note Life Care Plans for Parking Structures.
The event was also attended by Richard Kitchen, Department for Transport, who delivered a speech on behalf of the Minister for Transport, Stephen Ladyman. In his speech the Minister praised the BPAs willingness to work closely with policy makers to ensure parking is both transparent and fair.
A key issue raised by the Minister was the misuse of vehicle keeper data. He highlighted the fact that new measures were announced in July to ensure that such data was safeguarded and not abused, and that a full progress report is due to be published in autumn 2007. The report is expected to include new and detailed guidance surrounding the requirements for evidence of a reasonable cause to access such data, e.g. if an applicants approach is not of a high standard, approved conditional access will not be given.
The Minister also commended the BPA for being the first organisation to approach the DVLA to acquire the accredited trade association status.
Keith Banbury, chief executive of the BPA said: Only two years on, the BPA members dinner has already become one of the central events in the parking calendar for everyone who is engaged in the parking industry. We were honoured to have been given praise by the Department for Transport and are keen to work with them for future improvements in the industry, particularly with regards to the issue of safeguarding vehicle keeper data.
