Carl Walker, inc. announces completion of the city of Kansas city arts district garage

Carl Walker, Inc., a nationally recognized consultant in the parking industry, recently completed a parking structure for the City of Kansas City that is adjacent to the new Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, located in Kansas City, Miss.

The $413 million, 286,000-square-foot Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts houses two performance halls and covers 13 acres over a 1,000-space underground parking structure that blends seamlessly with its distinctive architecture. The parking structure is a public parking garage that guest will use at the Kauffman Center. The project features a beautifully landscaped plaza level with a waterproofing/drainage layer, top soil, terraced lawn, landscape beds, trees and more.

The design of the parking structure posed several challenges, including a curved footprint and a desire to hide parked vehicles from sight while still providing a safe and user-friendly facility. Passive security measures include natural light, high ceilings, unique architectural lighting, flat floors, attention to pedestrian line-of-sight, wayfinding and designated pedestrian access areas.

Recognized as one of the most respected and experienced companies in the parking industry, Carl Walker, Inc. operates 10 offices nationwide that specialize in parking planning, parking structure design and the restoration of parking structures, plazas and facades.
