Char.gy Selected for 3,000-Point On-Street EV Charging Rollout in West Northamptonshire

The Contract Forms Part of One of the UK’s Largest Local On-Street Charging Programmes.

West Northamptonshire Council has appointed UK charge point operator Char.gy to deliver more than 3,000 on-street electric vehicle charging sockets across the region.

The contract was awarded following a competitive procurement process and forms part of one of the UK’s largest local on-street charging programmes. The project will receive £2.85 million from the UK Government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund, alongside private-sector investment.

The rollout is intended primarily for residents who do not have access to a driveway or another private home-charging option. Charging locations have been identified using local data, requests submitted by residents and consultation with parish councils.

Many of the new charging units will be installed on existing lamp columns owned by the council and parish councils. Reusing this infrastructure is expected to reduce installation costs, limit disruption to residential streets and enable the network to be deployed more efficiently.

The charging points will be offered with competitively priced tariffs, with the council seeking to provide accessible and practical charging facilities throughout West Northamptonshire.

Installation is scheduled to begin in mid-2026. Residents will receive further information about confirmed locations, construction schedules and instructions for using the chargers as the programme progresses.

The West Northamptonshire project adds to Char.gy’s growing portfolio of local-authority charging programmes. The operator has also been selected to install more than 1,500 charge points on the Isle of Wight and recently passed 5,000 installed public charge points in the UK.
