Inspectors have issued more than 1,000 tickets to Chicago motorists who failed to display city stickers on their windshields during a five-day sweep of downtown parking garages.
chicago.gifThe City now allows investigators to enforce the law in city-licensed parking facilities. A total of 1,007 citations were issued after visiting just 40 of the 496 garages. "People go from a garage where they live to a garage where they work, and they've hidden their cars," said City Clerk James Laski. Each ticket carries a $60 fine, $75 sticker fee and $30 late fee. Laski estimates that at its current rate, the city could collect as much as $6.1 million over the next year. The total penalty will increase to $235 on Jan. 1.
