Cleveland Hopkins Airport Advances $301 Million Parking Garage Project

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport has received approval for a new eight-story parking garage as part of a broader $1.6 billion modernization programme.

The $301 million garage will be one of the first major projects delivered under the airport's redevelopment plans. Each of the eight levels will include 750 parking spaces. The facility will also incorporate a new ground transportation center for hotel and off-site parking shuttles, along with a relocated RTA train station. The new garage is expected to open in 2029.

Before construction begins on the garage, work is underway on a new Gold Lot behind Concourse D. The lot will add approximately 1,600 parking spaces and is scheduled to open in spring 2027.

The airport is taking a phased approach to the redevelopment in order to maintain parking availability during construction. The new Gold Lot will provide additional capacity before work progresses on the new garage at the current Orange Lot site. Once the new parking garage is operational, the existing parking garage is planned to be demolished. That site will then be used for the development of a new airport terminal.

The wider modernization programme is intended to address several areas of the passenger journey, including parking and security. Plans also call for the new parking garage to be connected directly to the future terminal through a fourth-floor bridge and an underground tunnel.

The new terminal will include a central security checkpoint, baggage claim facilities and a new ticketing hall. It is currently expected to open in 2032. Together, the parking, ground transportation and terminal projects form part of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport's long-term redevelopment programme.
