Cleveland Hopkins Moves Ahead With New Gold Lot as Airport Overhaul Begins
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is preparing to break ground on a new parking facility as the airport begins a major transformation of its campus.
The new Gold Lot will add 1,600 parking spaces and is expected to open in March 2027. According to airport officials, the additional capacity is needed as passenger traffic continues to rise, with Cleveland Hopkins now serving more than 10 million travelers annually.
The lot will include passenger-focused features such as a covered walkway and shuttle service, helping improve access between parking areas and the terminal. Airport representatives described the project as an important amenity for travelers and a necessary step in addressing current parking demand.
The Gold Lot is also the first visible phase of CLEvolution, Cleveland Hopkins’ $1.6 billion modernization program. Once the new lot is operational, the airport plans to close the existing Orange Lot to make way for a new parking garage. That future garage is expected to accommodate nearly 50% more vehicles than the current facility.
The parking changes are part of a broader redevelopment strategy aimed at reshaping the passenger experience at Cleveland Hopkins. Longer-term plans include replacing the existing airport terminal, with the new terminal scheduled to open in 2032.
Airport officials said the goal is to create a more modern, adaptable airport that can better respond to changing passenger needs, including parking, concessions, technology, and other travel amenities.
While the Gold Lot is focused on parking capacity, it also sets the foundation for a much larger overhaul of Cleveland Hopkins in the years ahead.
