One Ticket - Endless Possibilities

Since the middle of last year, with the support of SVG, Würzburg's city transport company, Stadtwerke Aschaffenburg (Aschaffenburg's supply company) has been offering an unusual service to its parking customers: the city card

The city card is based on a customer loyalty card. Even though there are already as many loyalty cards as there are grains of sand on the beach, this card is very popular among car park users, as with the Aschaffenburg City Card, it is possible to pay without cash at the swimming bath, the recycling centre and in car parks, and it also works as a bonus card at the same time. To implement all this requires a certain amount of technical ingenuity.
The card consists of an ISO magnetic strip with an additional barcode. Both lead to the same identification number, the customer account. The barcode is used as a card-account identification medium, meaning that customer accounts can be run anonymously in the PM ABACUS system and thus comply with data protection regulations. The issued cards can be topped up at every DESIGNA automatic pay station in Aschaffenburg. The card can be used as a parking ticket as normal at the car parks' entrances and exits, and the parking charge incurred at the exit is then billed directly online from the customer's account in real time. At the same time, it is also possible for users to pay for their next trip to the swimming baths or the ice rink with the city card as well as to dispose of their old three piece suite at the recycling centre. Each facility has its own cost centre installed in the PM ABACUS system. Web-based reporting provides the operator, Stadtwerke Aschaffenburg, with information about the transactions carried out, and this information takes account of debits and top-ups in the parking system as well as payments and withdrawals associated with the individual cost centres.
This type of multifunctional card is another step for DESIGNA towards intermobility: old structures are being torn down, making thinking in other dimensions possible. A parking ticket is no longer used merely for parking, but can also be used as a payment card, key or employee ID. The possibilities are endless!
