DESIGNA: Parking at Mermaid Quay, With Flexibility Built In

At Mermaid Quay in Cardiff Bay, Designa UK delivered a parking system for Goldbeck Parking Services GmbH that combines License Plate Recognition (LPR) with a QR code fallback. Completed in July 2026, the project covers entry, payment and exit.

What’s installed on site:

• Two entry and two exit lanes with Designa CONNECT LANE 600 SLIM, including payment functionality at both exits
• Four LPR cameras and four Designa CONNECT GATE 600 barriers
• Four Designa CONNECT PAY 500 payment stations
• Designa CLOUD with intercom

The hybrid setup provides an alternative when a vehicle’s license plate cannot be recognised: drivers can use a printed QR code at entry and scan it at exit. Payment is also available directly at the exit, giving drivers another option before leaving.

Our team handled project planning, delivery and installation, and continues to support the site with service and maintenance.
