El Paso Airport to Install Over 2,200 Solar Panels in Parking Lots
El Paso International Airport is moving forward with its Solar Covered Parking initiative.
Construction preparations will require the closure of the Premium Reserved Parking lot and the eastern section of the Short-Term lot starting October 5, 2025. To offset this, the airport is expanding the West Lot by approximately 100 spaces, aiming to have it ready in time for Thanksgiving and the busy holiday period.
The project will add 2,286 solar panels atop parking lot shade canopies. Each panel is rated at 585 watts, with the system expected to generate a total of 1.33 megawatts of electricity.
The overall cost of the project is $3.8 million, with $1.75 million funded through a federal grant provided by the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2022. Completion is anticipated by February 2026.
