Improvements in the Well-Being of Professional Drivers

EYSA Group and Mowiz TRUCK, the heavy vehicle parking division managing the largest network of safe and secure truck parking in Spain, have joined the Wellbeing Campaign Manifesto. They are the first company in Spain to join and sponsor this European project, promoted by ESPORG and other international organizations. The event took place during "Wellbeing Truck Day," an institutional event held at the mowiz TRUCK parking lot in Astigarraga (Gipuzkoa).

The signing of the commitment was attended by institutional representatives, transport sector associations, technology companies, and carriers, who addressed key issues during roundtable discussions and conferences, such as the need to increase the availability of safe parking, promote the physical and mental health of carriers, and incorporate technology to facilitate their well-being.

The event provided a public presentation of the program's philosophy, which focuses on improving the living and working conditions of professional drivers in Europe. It was divided into two main sections: one dedicated to talks and panel discussions between various industry leaders, and the other, more recreational section, dedicated to implementing a series of initiatives aimed at increasing driver well-being.

Among the panelists were Silvia Pérez (Director of Roads at the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council); Ramón Valdivia (Executive Vice President of ASTIC); José Ignacio Cepeda Alejos (President of the GUITRANS Fundazioa Foundation); and Javier Jaso (Head of Transport at AECOC). The panel dedicated to the well-being of the hauler was addressed firsthand by Daniel Irazusta (self-employed hauler), David Noguera (truck driver for the Calsina-Carre transport fleet), and professional driver Nadia Nicolino. The panel on transport, health, and technology included Nuria Lacaci (General Secretary of MELYT); Chema Hidalgo (Purchasing Director of ESP Solutions); Amelia Cantarero (Founder of Cristóbal App), and Jorge Bernet (Sales Director of mowiz TRUCK).

During both days, visitors to the parking lot enjoyed an exhibition area with a wide variety of companies that provide services to truck drivers, such as Gandolapp (intelligent voice assistant for truck drivers), Trucks n B (parking reservation app), TDR Jobs (job portal for truck drivers), MELYT (Women in Logistics and Transport), and Cristobal app (mental health on the road).

Special mention goes to ASPY Prevention, which also collaborated with the European Drivers Wellbeing campaign, "Drivers Wellbeing," by setting up a quick health check-up area for BMI calculations and offering personalized health recommendations. The service's goal was to prevent diseases related to a sedentary lifestyle and other bad habits, as well as to promote self-care among drivers.

The day was also used to celebrate Truck Driver Wellness Day, a day geared toward professional drivers with a diverse program of activities designed to promote their physical and mental well-being, self-care, and camaraderie. During the morning, an active zone was set up with relaxation, stretching, and hairdressing sessions, as well as rest areas with music and shade. Sports and recreational activities were also held, including a functional training session, a 150-meter race, darts tournaments, and FIFA games on the big screen. The day concluded with a communal meal and recreational activities such as a water balloon fight, consolidating its position as a meeting and care space for the trucking community.

This adhesion has consolidated mowiz TRUCK's role as a promoter of a more humane, sustainable, and safe transportation model. As a sponsor and supporter of the program in Spain, the company will play an active role in its development, facilitating its nationwide implementation and promoting the creation of functional spaces that integrate rest, health, and wellness services for drivers.

According to the European Council, adequate investment in infrastructure and services for hauliers could increase EU GDP by 9.6% by 2050 and generate savings of €58 billion in healthcare costs. Added to this is the shortage of safe places, the lack of services that promote healthy lifestyles, and the aging of the sector, factors that hamper generational change and make coordinated action urgently needed.

In addition, the program offered a direct listening session with professional drivers, who shared their experiences and suggestions for improving the industry's day-to-day operations. The program also included sessions focused on mental health, technological advances, and a symbolic opening of the new Wellbeing area at the Astigarraga venue.
