Florida Marlins’ Ballpark Parking Garages Win Design Award

- Miami, Florida, US

The Florida Parking Association (FPA) recently named the Florida Marlins Ballpark Parking Garages the winner of their annual design competition in the New Design category. The FPA is a professional organization that commits itself to enhancing the image of parking by promoting and representing the parking industry in the State of Florida.

For the Marlins’ new state-of-the-art MLB stadium, Timothy Haahs and Associates, Inc. (TimHaahs), in conjunction with architect, Leo A. Daly, designed four parking structures to provide spectators and the surrounding community with convenient parking options. For the stadium, rich in history and culture, the TimHaahs team, which included contractor, Suffolk
Tim Haahs Parking Garage DesignConstruction, designed and constructed the parking facilities to incorporate a variety of uses, such as retail space and provisions for possible future housing or academic uses.

With user convenience in mind, TimHaahs designed the garages to empty within 40 minutes, as well as strategically placed the facilities at the four corners of the playing field. In terms of architectural design, the TimHaahs
team remained consistent with Miami’s vivacious, energetic environment and reflected that ambiance in the facilities through bright colors, complementary lighting accents, and façade enhancements.

TimHaahs designed four independent parking garages to serve the new Miami Marlins Ballpark Stadium, providing 4750 spaces. Working with prime garage architect, Leo A. Daly, TimHaahs performed functional design, structural engineering, and parking consulting for all structures. The new 37,000 seat stadium will be located at the former Orange Bowl Stadium site.

In the early planning stages for the stadium, TimHaahs provided master planning services for the site related to parking, and vehicular and pedestrian access and movement. This concept included building location, architectural elements, and planning for efficient ingress and egress. TimHaahs designed the structures to empty within 40 minutes during major events.

This urban complex will include both mixed-use parking structures and support spaces for future residential use. Site improvements for six adjacent surface parking lots, located to the east and west, complement the structured parking. Combined, the garages and lots create approximately 6,000 parking spaces for stadium functions, future residential units, and other parallel activities.

The parking structures will include 60,000 square feet of ground floor commercial and retail space. This space will provide a much-needed, easily accessible destination to the community and patrons. The top tier of all four garages will provide a platform for solar panels supplying 1.6MW power.
