Hand Held Products Speeds Traffic Enforcement For Yonkers NY Parking Violations Bureau
Hand Held Products(TM), Inc., a leader in image based data collection systems for mobile, in-premise and transaction processing applications, announced that the City of Yonkers Parking Violations Bureau (PVB) has selected its Dolphin 9500 Series, powered by Adaptus Imaging Technology, for use in the parking enforcement division.
Hand Held Products partnered with EZTag Corporation, a provider of parking enforcement management solutions, to customize the Dolphin 9500s.
The rugged and durable Dolphin 9500s will enable Yonkers traffic enforcement officers to more easily and quickly capture information on offending vehicles. Once the officer reads the 2D bar code (PDF417) on the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) registration, the citation fields are automatically populated. In certain circumstances, only one field is required for manual input to issue a ticket.
The officer then utilizes Bluetooth technology to print the ticket. At the end of each shift, the officer is able to transmit all of the issued ticket data wirelessly to the department's server.
An additional critical factor in selecting the Dolphin 9500 was the mobile computer's battery autonomy and intelligent power management, which is critical for officers to complete a full eight-hour work shift without the units shutting down or requiring frequent battery changes.
"Our goal was to implement an extremely easy to use, off the shelf, functional application to 'sit on top' of the Dolphin 9500s to make ticket issuance as efficient and timely as possible," said Dan Rossiter, Account Manager, EZTag. "Because of this solution, Yonkers traffic officers issue ticket violations in less than 30 seconds."
In the future, the city plans to provide wireless hotspots throughout Yonkers. With the WiFi radio already integrated in the Dolphin 9500s, the mobile computers are "future-proofed" and will not require a hardware upgrade to provide officers with real-time information in the field.
"Dolphin mobile computers are enabling business tools that deliver real value and improved work flow. Customers who appreciate a flexible technology platform, require world-class connectivity, and who demand the highest standards of durability in an ergonomically sound solution will find the Dolphin to be in a class by itself," said Kevin Ahearn, VP, Mobile and Wireless, Hand Held Products, Inc.
