Haskell changes logo, shortens name to mark 40 years

In October, Haskell will celebrate its 40th anniversary, and to mark this occasion, the company has made some changes. On Sept. 26, the company unveiled a new corporate logo and shortened its name to Haskell.
This is a move that reflects what many people in the design-build industry have referred to the company as during the last decade.
“We’re very excited about these changes and feel they reflect our growth over the last four decades,” David Payne, public relations coordinator, said.

Payne said the company would keep its current Web site address, www.thehaskellco.com and e-mail addresses that end in @thehaskellco.com.

“Legally, our name is still The Haskell Company,” he said, “so we’re keeping our contact information the same.”

Haskell- A look back in time

Preston H. Haskell, the company’s chairman, founded The Haskell Company in October 1965 at the age of 26. His company, originally known as the Preston H. Haskell Company, began work on its first project soon afterward –a million-dollar, 100-unit apartment complex in Atlantic Beach- for developer James H. Winston. In fact, it was Winston who encouraged him to leave his job as a vice president at S.S. Jacobs Company to start his own firm.

In 1978, Preston Haskell said he wanted the company’s name to be “broader than a single individual,” and with the help of a Chicago firm specializing in corporate identification, the company shortened its name to The Haskell Company and adopted the “stylized H” mark. The company also added the tagline
“Architects/Engineers/Contractors” to its logo, which Haskell said was “significant.”

“This was the first time the company was identified as an integrated, in-house design-build firm practicing all three disciplines,” he said. “It coincided with enactment by the Florida Legislature of legislation allowing the practice of architecture by a corporation.”

Haskell began to use its current tagline, “America’s Design-Build Leader” in the 1990’s, after it became a registered trademark.

“’America’s Design-build Leader’ truly represents who we are,” Payne said. “And, we intend on continuing this leadership for the next 40 years and beyond.”

Since its founding, Haskell has been on the forefront of the design-build industry, and in fact, was one of the first companies nationally to integrate architecture, engineering and construction services under one roof.

Over the years, Haskell’s integrated services have been utilized on many landmark projects including the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Alltel Stadium, the Daytona International Speedway, the American Transtech building (now Convergys), Baptist Hospital South, and the St. Joe building. It was an early leader in public sector design-build delivery and has designed and built 43 public schools in Florida and other states, including California’s first design-build school, Carmen Dragon Elementary in Antioch.
