HID Signs Agreement to Acquire Calmell Group to Globally Expand in Public Transportation, Enhance Smart Ticketing Product Portfolio

HID, a global provider of trusted identity solutions, has signed an agreement to acquire Calmell Group, a Spanish company specializing in the production of smart cards, magnetic tickets, and smart paper tickets for the public transportation sector.

The acquisition expands HID’s smart ticketing portfolio by adding new formats such as magnetic and smart paper tickets. It also enhances HID’s geographic reach in public transit markets, particularly in Spain, the European Union, Northern Africa, and Latin America.

Calmell Group, established in 1920 as a graphic printing business, has evolved into a leading manufacturer of fare media for public transport. Headquartered in Barcelona, the company will become part of HID’s Identification Technologies Business Area within the Events and Mobility Solutions Business Unit.

The integration will allow Calmell to benefit from HID’s global sales network and operational support, while also contributing to HID’s efforts to offer comprehensive solutions for mobility and transit.

The transaction is expected to close following the fulfillment of standard regulatory and closing conditions.
