METPARK Modernises Its Car Parks

METPARK, the Bordeaux Métropole public parking authority, announces the first installation of Hitachi Rail's Smart Parking Ticketless solution in the city's '8 May 45' car park, with a total capacity of 719 spaces.

  • Hitachi Rail's new Smart Parking Ticketless solution improves the user experience, making it easier to enter and exit car parks and helping to reduce carbon footprint through the elimination of paper tickets
  • For operators, the solution offers intelligent cameras with integrated artificial intelligence (AI), which achieve excellent performance in vehicle recognition
  • This contract creates a smart mobility connection for Bordeaux's car parks with the city’s transport system, contributing to seamless and sustainable multi-modal transport in the city.

The deployment of Hitachi Rail's smart parking systems has begun in Bordeaux city centre car parks, with the aim of improving traffic flow in the areas most frequented by the inhabitants of the metropolis. Since December 8, 2024, the 8 May 1945 car park has benefited from this technology, marking the first deployment of an ambitious project signed between Hitachi Rail and METPARK, aimed at modernizing 14 parking lots in Bordeaux. Today, six car parks in Bordeaux are already equipped: the 8 mai 1945 car park, the Saint-Jean, Victoire, Bonnac and Grands Hommes train station and two Bouscat car parks: Laharpe and Libération.

A true technological breakthrough, this solution ushers in a new generation of ticketless access that is smoother and more intuitive. It is based on compact, modern and high-performance equipment, integrating cutting-edge artificial intelligence. Thanks to smart cameras, the system automatically recognizes vehicles by analyzing license plate, size, brand and color. All this data is processed by an image analysis algorithm, allowing a fine and responsive management of flows. This solution is also interfaced with the intercom system, to enrich interactions with users while ensuring fast and personalized processing of requests.

The METPARK company is the 1st operator in France to generalize this system to all its parks.

Hitachi Rail deployed the new latest-generation equipment in less than a month, minimizing the impact on the operation of the fleet. This system represents a step forward for customers who are gradually adopting it.

The Smart Parking Ticketless solution is scalable and makes it possible to implement new mobile applications for users in the future. All equipment meets PHMR (disabled people with reduced mobility) standards and offers features for the hearing impaired.

"With this first deployment of our Smart Parking - Ticketless solution in Bordeaux, we are offering innovative technologies, designed to meet the new expectations of users and the challenges of urban mobility. This project shows our commitment to supporting parking operators in their transformation to smart parking solutions, contributing to a smoother and more connected mobility experience.", Sarah Korsia, Director of Parking and Urban Transport, Hitachi Rail.

"This first commissioning marks a structuring step in the transformation of the city's car parks. By relying on high-performance, intuitive and ticketless technology, METPARK concretely improves the daily life of users while being part of a sustainable modernization approach to public space. This project illustrates our desire to support new mobility and to make our car parks real gateways to the city", Nicolas Andréotti, Managing Director of METPARK.
