Holiday Extras: MAG and BookFlowGo Complete Landmark Cloud Migration with Zero Downtime

Smooth Landings All Round

- Manchester, UK
This milestone marks a significant transformation in MAG’s world leading valet parking operations, now benefiting from ParkIT’s cloud-based solution.

Manchester Airport Group (MAG) and BookFlowGo (part of Holiday Extras) have successfully completed a full-scale cloud migration across Manchester, East Midlands, and Stansted airports delivering a seamless transition from legacy infrastructure with no operational disruption.

The 13-month programme involved the migration of seven car parks. It spanned 17 dry runs and six live cutovers, each carried out in a live airport environment and timed precisely to avoid any passenger impact.

This milestone marks a significant transformation in MAG’s world leading valet parking operations, now benefiting from ParkIT’s cloud-based solution. The result is improved vehicle tracking, operational visibility, and data-driven decision-making across three of the UK’s busiest airports. This cloud-based solution not only enhances operational efficiency and a more seamless experience for our customers, but also opens the door to the full suite of enhanced functionality.

David Naughton, Technology Product Manager at Manchester Airport Group said this is

“the smoothest landing of a high-profile system change that I’ve seen in my time at MAG”.

Delivered collaboratively by MAG Technology’s Product management team, supported by operational, infrastructure, and deskside support teams alongside BookFlowGo’s delivery and engineering leads, the migration was praised for its clarity, coordination, and in-person support during go-live periods.

Key Highlights

  • Zero operational downtime during migration
  • Live airport environments managed with precision
  • Over 100+ staff trained and supported during roll-out
  • As part of the migration, all hardware was integrated and upgraded across all kiosks and lockers. This technical enhancement ensures a more reliable and efficient operation of our car park management systems.
  • Improved staff experience via a modern user interface and reliable reporting have significantly improved the staff experience, making their work more efficient and enjoyable.

The operational efficiency gains have not only improved the staff experience but also enhanced the customer journey, making airport operations smoother and more enjoyable for passengers.

The programme’s success was a result of meticulous planning, and a shared commitment to excellence, reassuring all involved of the thoroughness of the project.

Oliver Ashford, CEO of BookFlowGo said: “Seeing the first day of live operations run smoothly after months of meticulous planning was a standout moment. It proved that digital transformation, even in live, high-pressure environments, is possible when the right teams work together.

This project now serves as a blueprint for future digital upgrades across transport and travel infrastructure.
