Holiday parking raises $5,000 for food bank

The Peterborough food bank got $5,045.45 on Tuesday thanks to people who dropped money into the downtown parking meters during a special promotion in December.
The money is from the Free Two-Hour Parking Downtown promotion through the City of Peterborough, states a press release.

Dennis VanAmerongen, the city's parking operations co-ordinator, and Erica Cherney, Downtown Business Improvement Area chairwoman, presented the cheque to John Alleyne, Kawartha Food Share warehouse manager on Tuesday.

This promotion has raised more than $40,000 for various charities since its inception in 2003, the release states.
