HUB Parking Technology: A Smart RV Area in the Heart of Cesenatico, Italy

The Municipality of Cesenatico and local mobility company ATR have worked in synergy with HUB Italia

Some campers say that boondocking is the best way to disconnect, go off-grid, and have a truly authentic camping experience. Other campers enjoy the outdoors at more traditional RV parks with full hookups, services, and free WiFi.

In between, there are smart RV parks that are digitally enabled, fully ticketless, with camera-based and mobile access. A brand new example is the via dei Mille RV park in Cesenatico, Italy, just inaugurated for the summer season.

The Municipality of Cesenatico and local mobility company ATR have worked in synergy with HUB Italia to make the 20-space RV park in Via dei Mille smarter and more functional, right in time for the traditional summer holiday period: the month of August.

The area is equipped with a fully automated gated ingress and egress, slim Jupiter stations, a cashless pay station, and of course straightforward instructions on how to navigate the entire experience. The parking rate is set via JMS management software as follows: 1 € per hour or 7 € for 24 hours, with maximum duration of 72 hours.

How Does It All Work?

The system installed by HUB Italia for ATR takes advantage of the innovative Ocr character recognition technology that allows, through specific LPR cameras, the reading of the caravan's license plate both on entry and exit. Once the vehicle approaches the entry lane gate, Selea LPR camera captures the license plate and connects to JMS to temporarily store this digital ID and allow the vehicle in, by opening the PRO barrier.

Before exiting, the customer will be able to pay by Credit or Debit Card, by typing in the license plate at the cashless payThe system installed by HUB Italia for ATR takes advantage of the innovative Ocr character recognition technology station APC. The system configuration is ticketless: no paper ticket is issued, saving on environmental and labor costs. Everything is handled through registration of the vehicle's license plate. At the exit, the license plate reading will allow to verify the correct payment and authorize the guest to leave the area with activation of the respective barrier, within 10-minute grace time.

The entry and exit lanes are equipped with a Voip intercom that can connect in talk-listen the user with ATR or a remote assistance service. The system will soon be equipped with JPass mobile app, which allows users to digitally book and pay by credit card for parking, and be recognized at entry by their registered license plate. The entry and exit columns are also equipped with optical scanners capable of reading any QR code, issued at the time of booking with JPass: this medium is particularly effective in case of camera reading failure on dirty or extremely damaged license plates.

Cesenatico RV area is just another example of how cities can upgrade their mobility infrastructures and tourist reception services: the way people choose to travel and manage their holidays is becoming more digital, and their expectations are to find adequate and interconnected services.
