Huntsville International Airport to Expand Parking Deck

Huntsville International Airport is preparing to begin construction on an expansion of its parking deck in October, with completion expected in roughly two years, according to the Huntsville Planning Commission. The new addition, located just west of the existing structure, will provide 1,415 additional parking spaces. Christine Harding of KPS Group noted that the project will include reconfiguring the deck’s entrance, a change that had previously received approval from the commission. This portion of the work is expected to take about seven months.

The expansion will also feature a new elevator lobby, a stairwell, and a “Fly HSV” façade. The commission approved the overall design, location, and scope of the project, marking the latest improvement at the airport, which has seen ongoing upgrades to its terminal and concourse areas.

In other planning actions, the commission approved two elevator additions at Alabama A&M University, one for the Carver Complex and another for Patton Hall. It also granted approval for 66 single-family home lots in phase 1A of the Hitching Post subdivision in Limestone County, seven lots in the third phase of the Diamond Park subdivision, and the layout of the 144-unit Sutton Apartments near Winchester Road. Additionally, the commission approved the layout of 85 lots in the Buford Cove subdivision and zoning for 14.62 acres north of Interstate 565 for Highway Business C-4 and Commercial Industrial Park uses, pending final approval by the City Council.
