Incheon Airport Plans 9,800-Space Parking Expansion by 2031

Incheon International Airport is preparing a major expansion of its passenger parking facilities, with plans to add more than 9,800 spaces by 2031 as demand continues to grow.

The programme would increase total passenger parking capacity, including valet facilities, from the current 46,851 spaces to 56,654 spaces. The expansion is intended to address recurring capacity pressures during holidays and other peak travel periods.

A central part of the project is a new parking structure at Terminal 2. Incheon International Airport Corporation plans to invest approximately KRW 150 billion (USD 108 million) in a parking tower on the eastern side of the terminal. Designed with two underground floors and three above-ground levels, plus rooftop parking, the facility is expected to provide around 1,300 short-term parking spaces. Planning and traffic feasibility studies are scheduled to be completed during the first half of 2027 before construction moves forward.

The airport will also expand its long-term parking capacity. At Terminal 1, around 3,898 spaces are planned on unused land at Sky Garden by 2028. A further 2,200 spaces are expected to be developed north of Terminal 2 by 2029.

Valet parking will form another part of the capacity increase. Together, the various projects will add 9,803 parking spaces across the airport.

Parking pressure has become particularly noticeable at Terminal 2 following the relocation of Asiana Airlines operations earlier this year. At the same time, passenger volumes have returned to pre-pandemic levels and more travelers are choosing to access the airport by car. Demand has been especially high around major holidays, when reservations for official airport parking have frequently reached capacity. 

Incheon International Airport Corporation has already taken steps to improve availability, including securing 3,266 short-term passenger parking spaces and revising parking arrangements for airport employees. The longer-term expansion programme is intended to further improve parking availability as passenger numbers continue to increase.
