Texas Children’s Hospital Takes the Pain Out of Parking With an INDECT Parking Guidanc

INDECT USA, the parking industry’s leading provider of sensor-based parking guidance systems, has today announced the completion of three parking guidance installations at the Texas Children’s Hospital.

The installation was successfully managed by experienced local distributer, Parking Guidance Systems (PGS).  PGS have installed INDECT parking guidance systems in 40 locations across America including the recent employee garage at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

More than 1000 single-space sensors with extended LED lights and numerous wayfinding signs were installed in Garages 21, 16 and 12, dramatically improving the flow of traffic within Texas Children’s Hospital.

The layout of this parking guidance system is different to what you might expect in a shopping center or airport,” said Derek Frantz, Head of Business Development at PGS. “It’s designed to direct visitors to a parking spot that is closest to their destination, not just the first available space.”

Matrix signs have been placed at the entrance to each of the parking garages directing visitors to either the West Tower, Wallace Tower, the Women’s Pavilion or Legacy Tower. As drivers advance further through the garages they can choose which direction to go depending on the type of medical care they need.

The focus is on getting patients and visitors to their final destination in the shortest possible time with the least amount of stress,” said Frantz.

When an area becomes full the signs automatically redirect drivers, giving them the option of valet parking if they are in a rush or guiding them to an alternative garage.” he said.

The extended LED lights make it easy for drivers to spot vacant spaces from several hundred yards away. Different colors indicate each space’s status. Green for available, red for occupied and blue for ADA.

Extended LED

In keeping with Texas Children’s Hospital’s commitment to reducing their environmental footprint, all internal wayfinding signs were integrated into the existing signage. This resulted in a significant reduction in the amount of construction waste normally generated in large installations.

Texas Children’s Hospital is one of only 10 children’s hospitals across the country to achieve 2018/19 Honor Roll designation by US News and World Report.  They were ranked #4 nationwide and the only hospital in Texas and Southern USA to make it onto the list.
