Kittilä Airport Named Finavia’s Airport of the Year 2025

Finavia has selected Kittilä Airport as its Airport of the Year 2025, recognising the airport’s performance across business development, passenger growth and day-to-day operations.

Kittilä was chosen from the 20 airports operated by Finavia. The award highlights the airport’s ability to accommodate increasing passenger numbers while maintaining operational efficiency and strong customer satisfaction.

Located in Finnish Lapland, Kittilä Airport has undergone significant development in response to continued growth in tourism. Between 2018 and 2020, the airport was included in Finavia’s wider investment programme covering airports across Lapland.

Approximately EUR 25 million was invested in Kittilä Airport during this period. The improvements included the construction of new taxiways, additional aircraft stands, expanded baggage handling facilities and an extension of the passenger terminal by around 2,000 square metres.

These investments were designed to provide additional capacity while supporting safe and punctual airport operations and maintaining a high standard of passenger service as traffic volumes increased.

Finavia also highlighted the airport’s approach to financially sustainable maintenance and operational development, alongside positive employee satisfaction levels.

The annual Airport of the Year award recognises not only the airport itself but also its employees and partners involved in continuously improving operations and services across Finavia’s network.

Kittilä Airport previously received the award in 2021. In 2024, the title went to Rovaniemi Airport, which was recognised for its development, customer experience and contribution to the growth of tourism in Lapland.
