L28,000 Parking fine
A MYSTERY woman driver has run up an unbelievable L28,000 in parking fines over the past three years.
The cheeky motorist has already paid off L12,000 - but still owes a further L8000 on each of her two cars. Despite the massive bill, the wealthy woman is still parking her plush motor in city centre parking spaces every day.
The cheeky motorist has already paid off L12,000 - but still owes a further L8000 on each of her two cars. Despite the massive bill, the wealthy woman is still parking her plush motor in city centre parking spaces every day.
Glasgow City Council chiefs last night refused to reveal her identity. But they said she could save a fortune by simply buying a season ticket for a nearby car park.
Parking manager Kenny Boyle said: "This woman had built up a massive backlog of fines, which we are now working our way through. But she does not seem to have any difficulty paying. "She is our worst offender but we have people who walk into our office each week with bundles of tickets in their hands and pay them off.
"There will be other people in the city who have had as many tickets as this woman but who have paid them off in time and not run up a backlog. "Everyone who gets a parking ticket thinks they are a victim but there are quite a number of people who openly abuse the system. "Someone who leaves their car without paying is preventing other motorists from using the space."
A 12-month ticket for the council's Concert Square car park would cost her L1800, compared with an average L9000- a-year in fines. Land services convener Alistair Watson said: "It is incredible that someone has so much money to burn but clearly this is someone who is prepared to pay continual parking tickets."
