Legislators And Governor Discuss City Parking Tax Increase.

Irked by a new parking tax increase in Pittsburgh, state legislators from the area are meeting this week with Governor Ed Rendell to discuss other ways for the city to get its financial house in order.
Pittsburgh.gifState Sen. Sean Logan said the session would involve a mix of city suburban legislators from both parties. Several legislators have criticized the city's higher parking tax, which, on Feb. 1, will go to 50 percent from the current 31 percent. That could increase parking costs for motorists by $10 to $30 a month. The increases would fall heavily on suburbanites who drive to work in the city. State Rep. John Maher called the parking tax increase a "weapon of self-destruction," adding that "the fallout of the city's short-sighted tax increase will [cause] years of damage to Downtown..."
