Melbourne Airport Prepares New Pick-Up and Drop-Off Zones for October Opening

Melbourne Airport is preparing to introduce new Pick Up and Drop Off zones in October as part of the biggest change to its road network since the airport opened in 1970.

To help travellers prepare for the new access arrangements, the airport has launched an online journey planner that allows passengers and motorists to familiarise themselves with the redesigned routes before arriving.

The new Pick Up and Drop Off facilities will offer significantly more space than the airport’s existing departures ramp and forecourt. Their introduction will also support plans for $4.5 billion in privately funded projects to expand Melbourne Airport’s international terminal.

The journey planner provides route information for passengers travelling with Qantas, Virgin Australia and international airlines. Users can visualise the new exit from the Tullamarine Freeway leading to the Drop Off area, as well as the corresponding approach for motorists arriving from the north.

The tool also shows the new route for drivers collecting passengers from Terminals 1, 2 and 3. These drivers will be directed to a new free and undercover Pick Up zone.

The revised Pick Up and Drop Off arrangements are scheduled to take effect from October, marking a major change in how private vehicles access the airport’s main terminal precinct.

Travellers can access the journey planner through the Melbourne Airport website ahead of the opening of the new facilities.
