Mijas Advances Plans for Six New Car Parks Providing Nearly 2,450 Spaces

Mijas Town Council is progressing with a major parking infrastructure programme that could add almost 2,450 spaces across six locations in the Costa del Sol municipality.

Design contracts have now been awarded for two proposed facilities: a car park near the Indira Gandhi primary school in Las Lagunas and another in the Santana area of Mijas Pueblo. Together, the two projects are expected to provide approximately 674 spaces.

The planned facility near the school is currently estimated at 250 spaces. Ingeniería Atecsur has been appointed to prepare the technical design. A joint venture between Ingeniería Atecsur and Roma Ingenieros will prepare the design for the larger Santana car park, which is expected to accommodate around 424 vehicles. 

Four additional parking projects are moving through the procurement process for their technical documentation. Current estimates include 280 spaces at Las Cañadas, 433 at Don Elías, 480 at La Vega and 580 at La Cala Boulevard.

Combined, the six proposed facilities could provide 2,447 spaces. Final capacities, construction budgets and other technical details will be established during the design process before the projects are put out to tender.

The municipality is also preparing to open the new Los Santos car park in September. Developed with an investment of €15.7 million, the facility contains 272 spaces. Of these, 200 will be assigned to local residents through a monthly parking arrangement, while 72 will be available for public short-stay use.

Further expansion is planned at the Virgen de la Peña car park in Mijas Pueblo. The approved project would add more than 600 spaces, with the construction tender expected to be launched before the end of 2026.

Alongside the capacity expansion, Mijas is planning an energy project at the La Candelaria car park in Las Lagunas. Solar panels will be installed to increase renewable energy generation and reduce operating costs. Ingeniería Atecsur has received a €24,995 contract to prepare the technical plans.
