Modernisation Works Begin at Arrivals Parking Facility at Henri Coandă International Airport
The National Airports Company of Bucharest has initiated a major refurbishment and structural upgrade of the multi-level parking facility serving the Arrivals terminal at Henri Coandă International Airport.
Constructed in 2003, the parking structure has experienced notable wear over time, including deterioration of structural components, façade elements and surface finishes. Water infiltration has also contributed to damage affecting ceilings, pillars and flooring, prompting the need for comprehensive rehabilitation.
Phased construction to limit disruption
The upgrade programme is expected to take approximately 10 months and will be delivered in stages to reduce inconvenience for passengers. During the initial phase, access is restricted to the ground level only, which offers 142 parking spaces, while the upper floors are temporarily closed.
Given the reduced capacity at Arrivals, travellers are encouraged to use parking facilities near the Departures terminal as an alternative.
Structural and technical improvements
Planned works include reinforcing the building’s foundations, installing connecting beams, and strengthening vertical structural elements through protective cladding. Additional metal frameworks fitted with shock-absorbing components will also be introduced to improve structural resilience.
The project will further address waterproofing issues, renew façade finishes, and upgrade essential infrastructure such as electrical systems, piping networks and rainwater drainage.
Changes to transport and access
As part of the temporary adjustments:
- Ride-sharing services will now operate from the Departures terminal, with designated pickup zones coordinated alongside mobility providers.
- Public transport routes 100 and 442 will no longer stop at Arrivals and will instead serve the shared Departures station.
- The taxi rank will continue operating at the Arrivals terminal.
Parking capacity and future expansion
Henri Coandă International Airport currently provides 2,226 public parking spaces. The closure of the upper levels at the Arrivals car park temporarily removes around 400 spaces from use.
To offset this reduction, a new multi-storey parking facility is scheduled to open later this year. Located close to the Arrivals area, the new structure will offer 1,019 additional parking spaces across four levels.
