Montréal Metropolitan Airport Expands EV Charging Infrastructure with Wallbox and edp électrique

120 EV chargers are already operational at YHU Terminal, with plans to expand the network to 168 charging points through smart energy management technology.

MET – Aéroport métropolitain de Montréal is strengthening its electric vehicle charging infrastructure through a project involving Wallbox and edp électrique. The installation at the airport’s YHU Terminal currently includes 120 operational charging stations, with a further 48 planned as part of the airport’s ongoing development.

Once the next phase is completed, the airport will have 168 Wallbox Pulsar Pro charging points, providing additional charging capacity for employees, visitors and airport operations.

Smart Power Management Supports Large-Scale Charging

A central element of the installation is Wallbox’s Power Sharing technology, which enables multiple charging stations to operate within the available electrical capacity of the site.

Rather than requiring each charger to draw its maximum power independently, the system distributes available electricity across groups of charging points. This approach helps optimize energy consumption and allows the airport to accommodate a substantial number of chargers while managing its electrical infrastructure efficiently.

The charging stations are also connected to Foresta’s infrastructure management platform. This software provides centralized oversight of the charging network and facilitates payment processing, bringing charging operations and administration together within a single system.

By combining intelligent power distribution with centralized network management, the airport has established an infrastructure that can accommodate additional charging stations as demand increases.

Multiple Partners Contribute to the Deployment

The project brings together several companies specializing in different aspects of EV charging infrastructure.

Alongside Wallbox and edp électrique, the deployment involves Foresta, EG Électrique and Westburne, covering charging equipment, software management, electrical installation and distribution.

edp électrique played a coordinating role in the project, helping integrate the various technologies and facilitating cooperation between the airport, equipment manufacturers and distribution partners.

This collaboration enabled the development of a charging network designed around the airport’s operational requirements and future expansion plans.

Supporting the Airport’s Long-Term Sustainability Plans

The installation contributes to Montréal Metropolitan Airport’s efforts to accommodate growing EV adoption and advance its sustainability objectives.

As airports increasingly serve passengers, employees and operational fleets using electric vehicles, charging infrastructure is becoming an important consideration in the development of airport facilities.

At YHU Terminal, the charging network has been designed to serve different user groups while allowing capacity to increase alongside future demand.

The next phase will introduce 48 additional Pulsar Pro chargers following completion of the new building currently under construction. This will increase the airport’s total deployment to 168 charging points.

Beyond expanding charging availability at Montréal Metropolitan Airport, the project demonstrates how coordinated infrastructure planning, smart energy management and integrated software can support larger EV charging installations at transport hubs.
