MSR-Traffic: State Capital Wiesbaden Ensures Climate Protection with Smart Parking
Wireless Magnetic Field Sensors From MSR-Traffic Monitor Almost 500 Outdoor Parking Spaces.
Using the parking area efficiently and reducing the time to find a parking space in order to minimize traffic and air pollution are some of the goals the state capital Wiesbaden is pursuing with the project. On behalf of the city, the municipal mobility service provider ESWE Verkehr is working to achieve these goals as part of the DIGI-P (Digitisation of Parking) funding project. The project is supported by the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport in the funding guideline "Digitisation of municipal transport systems" with a grant of up to € 547,899.
In addition to numerous other climate protection measures, various parking areas were equipped with parking sensors from MSR-Traffic from Lower Bavaria for the automatic digital recording of the parking space occupancy. In the future, real-time occupancy data will be generated for the P+R car parks at the main railway station (the section between Salzbachstraße and Gartenfeldstraße) and Moltkering, as well as the street-side car parks on Friedrich-Ebert-Allee.
Who Uses the Real-Time Occupancy Data?
The data is transferred to the urban traffic control system and further to the Mobility Data Marketplace (MDM) - the national access point in Germany. The information can then be utilized via the MDM by navigation services, for example. In addition, the data will be available to parking users directly online on a city website. The information gained about parking behavior or the utilization of parking spaces will ultimately be used for better traffic control in Wiesbaden.
MSR-Traffic - Solution for Intelligent Single-Space Monitoring
The magnetic field sensor (type U-Spot) detects the change in the magnetic field when a parking space is occupied. It then forwards the signal to the server. The evaluation is carried out in combination with a parking guidance system, parking ticket machines, apps, or the navigation system. The magnetic field sensors (type U-Spot) are very robust and independent of weather conditions. Furthermore, they reliably detect even in direct sunlight, snow, black ice, foliage, and fog.
The U-Spot is a wireless parking sensor with the highest durability and reliability a device can have on the market. It detects the parking space occupancy and records the time of how long the parking space was occupied by a vehicle. The vehicle detection system reacts immediately and reliably to any change in parking usage. Thus, it is suitable for outdoor parking and on-street applications. It also helps to optimize parking management.
Description and Application
The U-Spot is a wireless parking sensor that measures the earth's magnetic field changes generated in parking spaces every 3 seconds (configurable). When the magnetic field changes significantly in relation to the sensor calibration value, this is transmitted directly to the Cloud via the mobile network without a gateway using the standard 3GPP protocol "NB-IoT". In the Cloud, the information is processed with complex algorithms. With this, the entry, exit, and parking of a vehicle can be determined in real-time.
It is suitable for any outdoor parking space. It can be installed in the middle of the parking space or on the curb/sidewalk. Parked vehicles don't have to be removed for this.
Benefits
- Sensor without gateway
- Fast and easy installation, no wiring, only minimal construction work, and no maintenance
- Magnetic auto-calibration → guarantees accuracy throughout the life of the sensor
- Installation without having to remove parked vehicles
- Activation and connection verification via Cloud during installation
- 100 % flush and covered with potting compound
- Resistant to snow plows
- Insensitive to daylight and weather conditions (rain, fog, snow, ice)
